| Now, Julia had a friend whose name was Christopher.
It was Christopher's birthday, and Julia
asked him what he wanted for a present. "I
want magic ruby slippers," he said to
her, "so I can click my heels and go
anywhere I want." Julia thought about it very hard. What could she give her friend Christopher? She could give him a magic truck, and it could drive him anywhere his heart desired. But that would not be what he wanted. She could give him a magic airplane, and it could fly him wherever he chose to go. But that would not be what he wanted. Julia thought and thought. Should she give Christopher a magic train? A magic bus? A magic pair of skates? Then she had an idea that was so simple, she was surprised she hadn't thought of it before. |
